5 Tips To Improve Your Content Marketing Strategy

Basic Marketing Tips

It’s no secret that marketing has evolved into a data-driven process as a result of technological advancements and an increasingly competitive marketplace. The digital marketing landscape is ripe with opportunities to differentiate and expand businesses with insightful data. However, too much data can become overwhelming and lead you away from the original message of your content.
Under pressure to deliver results and reach growth targets, marketers can easily become distracted by the needs of the team, emails, and suggestions or input from colleagues or superiors. Faced with pressure from all sides, these distractions can lead to inefficiencies, and can potentially steer you away from the key message you originally intended to express in your content.
How do you separate yourself from these distractions and execute a successful content marketing strategy? We’ve put together a list of tips to help you get back to basics and focus on creating quality content that achieves your overarching objectives.

1. Don’t Shoot For The Moon

The primary function of a marketing department, and especially a content marketing team, is to increase awareness and interest in a brand to accelerate growth. Regardless of the size of your business, there will be immense pressure to deliver results and a myriad of opinions on how to do it. With so many opinions weighing in as you craft new content, it’s easy to feel like you’re being pulled in several different directions at once.
Sometimes to improve productivity, you have to put all of those opinions out of your mind and focus on what you know how to do. Remember, as a content marketer, your job is to create something of value for your brand’s target audience. Think about what you need to do to increase engagement, inspire social media discussions, and attract the attention of powerful influencers. If you focus on the primary objective of expanding your brand’s upper funnel, you will achieve the goals that are most important to your team.
You don’t need to be perfect; you just need to identify your most important goal, do your best work, and take a step towards achieving it.

2. Measure Your Performance

While some technological components can complicate your content marketing strategy, it is imperative that you use some form of technology to track and measure the performance of your marketing campaign.
To remain competitive marketers need technology that can optimize workflow and help build holistic content marketing strategies. There are five key components within the content marketing lifecycle, two of which are all about tracking the performance of content:
  • Planning
  • Creation
  • Distribution
  • Measurement
  • Optimization
The final two pillars of the lifecycle focus on tracking how your content performs. You need to optimize by learning what elements of your strategy are working and what needs improvement . Once you have quantitative data that conclusively tells you if you are hitting your targets, you can deliver more qualitative material for even greater results.

3. Remember The Human Component

Marketing has recently become more data-driven, but marketers cannot rely solely on technology to deliver results.. There is a humanistic element to successful marketing campaigns that cannot be replaced by data insights alone.
Data science is essential to determining what works and what doesn’t in your content strategy. However, the core of your content marketing campaign is built around your brand’s identity and your target audience. Your content should address the needs of your target audience to draw them to your site for more information or convert them into paying customers. Content that drives people back to your site increases the size of your upper funnel and improves your brand’s reputation.
When you review the data from your analytics, look at the numbers from the perspective of your ideal customer. What did people respond to within your existing content? What should you replicate to reach more of this demographic? What social channels can you use to reach them? What encourages them to bookmark your brand as a reliable source of information? Once you understand your audience and listen to the data, you can optimize content that will continue to build a positive relationship with your target demographic.

4. Avoid Distractions

Avoiding distractions may seem impossible when they seem to be coming from every direction. Fortunately there are a few strategies that you can implement to reduce distractions and get back to work.
First and foremost – don’t look at your email every few minutes. Creating a quality piece of content requires focus and attention, which is next to impossible if you are reacting to emails that arrive in your inbox throughout the day. This doesn’t mean avoid your emails entirely. Instead, simply limit the number of times you allow yourself to check the inbox every hour or minimize the window to help you become more productive.
It’s also useful to set a daily priority to manage your workflow. If everything is categorized as an immediate priority nothing will get done (and certainly not to the best of your abilities). Prioritize your tasks and organize deadlines to determine what needs to be done first. Focus on completing that task before you start working on anything else. Put all of your effort into one priority at a time so that you don’t end up feeling like you are pulled in too many directions.
Finally, don’t be afraid to delegate priorities from other people in your department. This doesn’t mean dumping work on others or shunning members of your team. A successful marketing team is a supportive unit where everyone is willing to chip in on important tasks in order to get the job done.

5. Make Your Content Fun

Humour is one of the best ways to build a relationship with your audience. People respond well to brands that have a little fun with their content and find a way to laugh at themselves. Humour not only humanizes the brand, but also makes them more relatable and authentic in the eyes of the audience.
Not only will humour give your brand a human face, but it will also make your content more interesting. This strategy is especially useful for challenging or mundane topics that might not receive a lot of traffic otherwise.
You can also incorporate visuals and use videos or webinars to help tell your story. Don’t be afraid to have a little fun with your content, if for nothing else than to stimulate your mind. Your creative mind.

8 Simple Tips to Optimize Your Facebook Business Page

Screen Shot 2015-08-23 at 12.52.56 AM.png

Social media should be the main ingredient of any marketing strategy. While some marketing techniques may get a bit expensive, this one is free and may bring you big profits.
It’s vital to have your Facebook Business Page correctly optimized with some SEO best practices in order to maximize conversions. First of all, there is a correlation between a well-developed social presence and your search rankings and in the end, a Facebook Business Page becomes a “second home page” for your online business. Since there are many rumors about Facebook Business Page Optimization on the Web, let’s put this straight. Within this post, you will learn some essential rules that will leverage your Facebook page….
Let’s start with the optimization basics:

1. Choose the right name

When it comes to correct optimization, it is fundamental to find the right name for your Facebook Business Page because you choose it once and it is permanent. It’s key to remember that the first word of your Facebook page title is the most significant in the eyes of Google.
This is why stuffing your page title with generic keywords won’t work. Doing so might make it look spam-like and discourage people from getting engaged, let alone sharing your updates. You need a brandable name that represents your business and shows its personality. This is the real intent behind any Facebook Business Page.

2. Custom your vanity URL

Never settle for the dynamic URL which is automatically generated when you sign up. On Facebook, you can easily personalize your address and unify it with your brand name. Make it unique and easy to remember. If you match your Facebook vanity URL with the page’s title you are going to strengthen your brand recognition. Moreover, personalization will hugely improve the findability of your page both in Facebook search and in search engines.

3. Fill out your profile

Make sure that your avatar, cover photo, bio and profile info are complete and contain up-to-date information. A complete profile reveals your professional attitude and is a clear signal to your audience that you are engaged. Moreover, aim for consistency across all of your social media channels, and make sure that the main visuals match. Utilize a Facebook cover photo that is 851 x 315 px.

Build your marketing personas and improve the communication with your targeted audience by using the appropriate voice and tone.

4. Pay special attention to the “About us” section

The truth is, your visitors want to know all of the details about your business: where your office is located, what service you offer, what your working hours are and so on. Therefore, provide them with complete information. The “About us” section is a good place to emphasize values and benefits your products or service may bring to the customers. Similarly to Meta Description, you need an apt description short enough [you get 155 characters] in order to be correctly displayed in the search engine snippet, both on desktop and mobile. Make sure that you choose an appropriate category:
  • Local business or place
  • Company, organization, or institution
  • Brand or product
  • Artist, band, or public figure
  • Entertainment
  • Cause or community

Complete your short description diligently and use accurate wording (including targeted keywords) to concisely characterize your business.
Pro-tip: Remember to add the link to your website or landing page within the short description because it strongly improves the findability of the particular offer or content page.

5. Sprinkle your business page with keywords strategically

Optimizing for keywords remains crucial, even when it comes to social media. Place your targeted ones in the most important, strategic parts of your page. Include them in the URL, page title and “About us” section because they will be visible on the front page and will appear in search results.
Remember that the name of your page corresponds with the title tag and your short description works as the meta description tag. However, make sure that you do not overuse keywords: stick to a top six and mention them naturally in the proper context.

6. Include the phone number and address in your Facebook page

The current Facebook design shows your business category, location, phone number and business hours straight away, on the front page. Therefore, make sure to fill out your street address, city, state, zip, and local phone number. Adding the address helps with indexing your brand for local search results and increases page following. Google simply pays more attention to pages that give specific contact information.

7. Optimize Facebook updates

The first 18 characters of each of your Facebook posts serve as the meta title and the meta description in SERPs. Therefore, anytime you are going to post on Facebook, share the content or upload a picture, and take advantage of the fact that you can add a description.

8. New features that you should implement

Facebook is constantly introducing new useful tools that are going to make running your business easier. To keep your page well-optimized, make sure that you keep an eye on any new features that emerge and implement them when available.

Call to action on Facebook

Worth mentioning are call to action buttons for Facebook Pages introduced in December 2014. Thanks to the call to action, people can easily interact with your business page. You can choose the suitable destination for your type of business and direct your followers to it. The full list includes 7 types of actions:
  • Sign Up – mailing list or webinar sign up page, join the tool.
  • Book Now – hotel or restaurant reservations
  • Contact Us – contact form
  • Use App
  • Play Game
  • Shop Now – e-commerce store
  • Watch Video

Messenger for Business

Just recently, Facebook officially launched Messenger for Business to let users chat directly with the companies. Some U.S. businesses can already have a personal, real-time conversation with their customers.

Payments via Facebook

Facebook launched a payments feature on its Messenger app available on mobile and desktop. Payments can be made with a debit card, and the best part is, Facebook won’t charge you for it.

However, at the moment payments are only available for United States’ users and are limited to circles of friends. We hope that it will soon become accessible in other countries and useful for businesses, also.

Saved replies

Moreover, Facebook is currently testing a new feature called “Saved Replies” which is going to help business page owners speed up communication with templates. This will save you precious time from repetitive customers service inquiries. Saved Replies enables you to create a message and save it for later use. It will be accessible via the messaging interface within a particular message view. When the message pops up, the Saved Replies will appear on the left sidebar with the “Manage Replies” button at the bottom.

Prepare generic replies for all of your frequently asked questions and always personalize them before sending.
This functionality is targeted to small business including startups and e-commerce shops who are not using any helpdesk platforms like, for example, Zendesk.

Conclusion

Of course, the overarching objective of Facebook is to stimulate engagement and produce valuable and exciting content. Therefore, tailor your language to your audience, be personal and personable, and use fresh and simple wording. Executing these optimization tips will improve your Facebook Business Page visibility and user experience, both of which are crucial for your success.

Should You Worry About Facebook’s Update Decreasing Page Likes?

Yesterday Facebook announced that it has at last decided to remove “memorialized and deactivated accounts” from Pages’ Like counts.
This means that all Likes from disabled or inactive accounts will no longer count towards your Facebook fanbase.
It also means that if any of your page fans have passed away or if their account was deactivated, their Like will be removed.
Rather than concern you, though, this drop in Facebook Likes is actually a good thing.
This article will tell you why.
In the next few weeks our Facebook Pages will likely experience a small decrease in Likes.
But don’t worry, as this won’t, in any way, affect your Page’s post engagement. With this new update we can be sure that the people who do see our posts are A) real and active Facebook users and B) genuinely interested in our brand.
Your Facebook Like Count will, for the first time, be a true reflection of your brand’s success on the platform.
For me, the coolest part of this Facebook’s update is that it’s really good for businesses concerned by the fall in organic reach on Facebook. Now, if your post is only seen by, say, 9% of your Facebook Fans, you can be sure that none of that 9% is inactive, deactivated, or (in short) useless.
If Facebook is going to restrict the amount of people who see our posts, I’m glad they’re finally ensuring that those people are actually engaged, active Facebook users.
In fact, I’d be surprised if this update doesn’t actually increase the amount of engagement our Facebook posts get (as we’re no longer showing our content to users who will never actually see it).

What this Means For Businesses: Your Refined Audience

With this new change, businesses have up-to-date insights on those individuals who actively follow their brand’s Page. You can also have peace of mind in knowing that every single Like on your page is from someone who actually cares about your business.
Accurate audience data will also make it easier for businesses to create Lookalike audiences and actually find success with this feature. Without inactive or memorialized accounts lookalike audiences will be able to provide you with a new group of potential fans who actually match that of your target audience demographic.
If you want to learn more about Lookalike audiences, check out my colleague James’ article “The Science of Optimizing your Facebook Advertising Campaigns”.
Individual posts made from deactivated or memorialized accounts are already filtered out by Facebook, so removing them from the Page’s Like counts will make the platform more consistent for businesses.
Oh, and don’t worry. If someone reactivates their account after deactivating it Facebook says they’ll be automatically added back as a Like on your Page.

Conclusion

An accurate Like count is a step towards offering businesses more value through the Facebook platform. While you may see a small decrease in Likes in the coming weeks, you can be assured that from now on every new Like your page gets will be an honest one.
Let me know your thoughts on Facebook’s recent update. Do you think this is a move in the right direction for the platform?

Top 5 Ways to Optimize Your Facebook Ads for the Best Performance

Top 5 Ways to Optimize Your Facebook Ads for the Best Performance
Facebook’s journey till now has been amazing. Having started as a simple platform to connect with friends and acquaintances has moved forward in great strides.Facebook has more than 1.35 billion active users. So, it is quite natural that the social media website has turned into a major marketing platform for businesses as well.
Every day, hundreds of businesses advertise on Facebook with the objective of gaining maximum customers. In fact, advertising on Facebook is one of the most popular forms of marketing for different companies these days. It’s surely a great way to reach targeted customers.
Are You Optimizing Your Ad?
You have posted your ad on Facebook. You are expecting it to fetch great results. But you find that the ads are not giving you great results. There might be a lot of views, but the conversion rate is quite low.
So, where does the problem lie?
Ask yourself a question: Have I optimized the Facebook ad?
Optimizing the Facebook ad is one of the most important things when you are planning to advertise on this social media platform. Of course you have some plans for the ads and, may be, a set budget. But you need to follow a number of steps, which can help you earn the best returns on investment from your Facebook ads.
It’s Not Easy
Advertising on Facebook is not an easy thing. The ad is meant for targeted customers and you will need to create it perfectly to get maximum reach.
But how can you create a perfect ad?
Here are a few tips that can help you optimize your Facebook ads for the best performance:
  • Segment the ads into smaller versions
  • Use images for maximum view
  • Wait before go for an ad variant
  • Use conversion pixels
  • Set the right time for ad display
Focus on Segmenting Your Ads
You need to know who your target audience is. And then, you should ensure that your ad is shown only to them. There’s no use displaying the ads to a number of viewers, majority of whom are not interested in your products or services. So, you need to segment the ad properly. Reaching out to the right section of the population holds the key to an ad’s performance.
The opportunity of segmentation offered by Facebook ensures that your ad can reach just those people whom you are targeting. When you are posting your ad, you can categorize the target audience depending on a number of things, such as their:
  • Age
  • Education
  • Interest
This ensures that only those people whom you are targeting will view your ad. So, the chances of selling your products and services is increased manifold. You can even add proper call to action in your ads to make them more effective.
Use Images for the Best Results
A picture speaks a thousand words. This age-old adage still holds true. Especially when it comes to advertisements.
If you are posting your ad on Facebook, people will initially just glance through it. So, it will be difficult to convey your message to them only through text-based messages. Instead, try adding a few images in the Facebook ads. And while doing that, make sure to follow a few rules.
  • Add a colorful image.
  • Try to include the picture of a human.
  • At least, share images of products.
  • Make your ad funny or quirky. It attracts more attention.
  • With the image, use text for headlines, sub-heads, or body to convey your message.
The use of images is sure to help increase the view count of your ads significantly. The best thing about posting your image-based advertisement on Facebook is that you can post as many as 6 images for your ads there. And Facebook chooses the best one among them, which can help you achieve maximum return on investment. The images are also recycled to ensure that the ad remains fresh for the eyes of the audience.
Duplicate Ads or New Ad Variants?
Creating ad variants is a common trend among people who are planning to post the ads in Facebook. But it is an expensive process and also take up a lot of time. So, don’t jump into it.
In fact, the first thing you can do is reuse the ads that are already there. However, for that you need to check out the Analytics to see the earlier performances of the ads. It has been observed that when reused, most of the ads offer different results. These can be even better than their previous performances, if you can analyze the earlier results properly and use them appropriately.
So, you should compare the performance of the duplicate ads a number of times before actually going for an ad variant.
Use Conversion Pixels
Are you using conversion pixel for your ad?
This is one of the latest benefits offered by Facebook to the advertisers. Also known as Offsite Tracking Pixels, these help you find out how many people who saw your ad actually went on to visit your website and purchase from there.
Set the Right Time for Your Ad
Facebook provides you with the opportunity to set the display time of your ad.
You are displaying your ad for long hours, but not getting the desired result.
Is this what you are facing?
You need to take immediate steps. Do a bit of research to know when your target audience remains active on Facebook. There’s no use displaying the ads when they are deep asleep. So, target that time of the day when your users remain active and have the maximum chance of clicking on your ads.
If you want to expand your business and increase your return on investment, your ads have to perform well. And with so many active users, Facebook is surely one of the most outstanding platforms for displaying your ad. So, try to optimize your ads perfectly for this platform to gain maximum return on investment. You need to have an initial plan. Try to achieve it. And monitor and review ad performances on a regular basis to get the best results from your Facebook ads campaign.
